00:04Esri Maps for IBM Cognos makes it really easy for report authors...
00:09...to add maps to their existing reports.
00:12Here's a report that a nation-wide insurer might use to evaluate the current state...
00:16...of their book of business.
00:18So this report contains a table that's showing...
00:23...key insurance policy metrics aggregated by state.
00:26Here, we've got Total Insured Value, Claims, Net and Gross Loss.
00:31There's also a couple of charts, one showing claims by state and then a pie chart of Total...
00:36...Insured Value By Policy Class for automotive, disability, property and life.
00:47Now maps are added to reports...
00:50...in the same way that you would add any other item and that's through Reports Studio.
00:57Here, we're opening up the Reports Studio interface.
01:06And when Esri maps for IBM Cognos is installed...
01:12...you'll have access to an Esri Viewer control.
01:14And like all the other controls in the toolbox you can just drag and drop right onto our map.
01:21So here we're going to be using an image to define a place holder for where the map...
01:26...the interactive map will live in the report.
01:28And we can use the traditional properties to set size, position, alignment, margins...
01:34...all the traditional properties you've used in the past, so now we have our map.
01:41We can save our report and report authors can configure the look and feel of their map...
01:50...add layers, hook up their business information through Vantage Administration.
01:55Now Vantage Admin provides a mirror image of the Cognos content store.
02:01So here we've got the National Performance report.
02:05And we can see that, currently, it's not configured.
02:09So by clicking this configure link we'll open up Map Studio.
02:14Now this maps application gets deployed with Esri Maps for IBM Cognos.
02:17And is an interactive interface for configuring layers and hooking up business information...
02:23...to the map.
02:24So the first step to authoring a map is to create a basemap or to specify a basemap.
02:31Now basemaps a basemap is a map layer that depicts...
02:36...background information like political boundaries, and roads, landmarks, imagery.
02:41And can provide context for all the other layers that will be overlaid on top.
02:45So out of the box authors have access to Street, Satellite, and Physical maps...
02:50...as well as all sorts of other maps.
02:53In this case, let's just grab our Street Map and drag it on.
02:59So now that we have our basemap added, we can set some initial basemap settings...
03:07...like the defaults, extent or view of the map.
03:11In this case this data relates to US states, so...
03:18...we'll center the map on the US and set that default extent.
03:25So now if we save and exit, if we come back and look at our report again...
03:44...now we have our interactive map configured with our street basemap.
03:49This basemap contains a navigational control for zooming in and out.
03:55A collection of tools, which we will take a look at more in just a little bit.
04:00And also on the left is our Table of Contents.
04:04Let's go back into Vantage Admin.
04:06And add some business information.
04:11Many IBM Cognos reports leverage...
04:15....the IBM Cognos query engines to deliver summarized data...
04:20...based on regional aggregation, such as county, state, country or postal code.
04:27For these reports like this one Esri maps for IBM Cognos fully leverages these queries...
04:33...to display the data rendered via thematic shading in the map.
04:42So in this report, we have data that relates to states.
04:49So here's a States layer.
04:51And we'll drag it onto the map above our basemap.
04:59Now the author can specify how this state map service...
05:03...relates to the underlying Cognos data.
05:10So here we have an intuitive wizard interface that allows report authors to configure...
05:15...how this information is connected.
05:18So here we have access to all the Cognos queries...
05:21...which were published in Report Studio with this report.
05:26So in this case, we have a State Query and we're going to match that state map service...
05:32...to the State Query based on the State field and the STATE_ABBR field.
05:43So all these fields are coming from that US States map service.
05:47And all these fields are coming from the Select a Cognos query.
05:52So that's all it takes to join this information together.
05:58Now we have to pick the Cognos fields that we'd like to symbolize.
06:02In our map here, I'm going to pick Total Insured Value...
06:05...both forms of loss and the number of claims.
06:08We also have some interesting attributes that come along with the Esri map service...
06:14...some demographic population information and so on.
06:18In this case, we're just going to select the Cognos fields.
06:22And now we have to decide how we want to join this information.
06:26In this case, we're going to choose to only displace states that exist...
06:30...only in the Cognos data first.
06:31So, for instance, if the state of Florida wasn't included in the Cognos query, then...
06:37...don't show that state on the map.
06:39And here we see a preview of that information joined up, so...
06:43...again, we have that STATE_ABBR field coming from the Esri map service.
06:47Then, all these other measures are coming from the underlying Cognos query.
06:53So now we decide on how this information will be symbolized or rendered on the map.
06:58The first step is to pick the default measure that will be first visible.
07:02In this case, we'll choose Total Insured Value.
07:05And we can specify a Format...
07:07...Precision for the number of decimal places as well as the number of groups.
07:12So here, we're going to split up the Total Insured Value into four different groups.
07:17And we can select from a palette of all sorts of color ramps; here, I'll grab...
07:24...a light to a dark green and we can also come in and specify specific...
07:31...colors chosen from this palette or plug in our own hex values to define those colors.
07:38So now we can choose whether we want to apply this symbology...
07:43...this grouping to all the other measures or if we want to configure those individually.
07:48In this case, I'm going to apply this same symbology to all of our measures.
07:53And now all we have to do is just make sure we have is the correct format specified.
07:58In this case, we have two fields that relate to dollars, and that our claims are...
08:03...just count, so no need for formatting there.
08:07So now, we're going to be able to access all of this attribute information...
08:10...these key measures right from the map, through pop-ups.
08:15And all we have to do is pick which fields...
08:17...from the Esri and Cognos queries fields that we want to be accessible.
08:24And there we've got our summary.
08:26So we see a summary of...
08:29...how that join between the map and the Cognos data was performed the default...
08:33...field symbology different grouping information.
08:39Then we can choose a Classification method whether we want to use...
08:42...Equal Interval or Quantiles.
08:44We'll open up a legend by default, which will show us some context for...
08:48...in this case, the Total Insured Value.
08:51And we'll call it, give it a Display name.
08:55So now that we've added, and joined our Cognos information to the states layer...
08:59...you can see that the symbol turned green here...
09:02...indicating that the state is accessing the Cognos information.
09:06Now we can save and exit again and let's take a look at our National Performance report.
09:22So now we have access to all of our key insurance policy matrix...
09:27...right inside this interactive map.
09:29So right now, we have all the states being shaded based on their Total Insured Value...
09:33...but we can cycle through all the other measures right from the legend.
09:39And we have access to all sorts of rich information through pop-ups.
09:46So because this map is tightly integrated with the underlying Cognos environment...
09:52...it can be configured to allow users to explore and summarize...
09:57...all of the information in this report right from the map.
10:02So, for the last time, let's jump back into Vantage Administration.
10:12Now back in Map Studio, there are broadcast action...
10:16...settings that can be set for any of the layers in our map.
10:21And these broadcasts can fire from feature being selected with a tool in the map...
10:27...from a single click or also from a double-click.
10:30In this case, we're going to use a toolSelect and we're going to add an action.
10:35Now this broadcast filter will specify how report items...
10:40...or underlying Cognos queries will update based on these selections.
10:45So the first one we'll add is our State Query.
10:48And we'll just match that up again to our state map service.
10:57So now when a toolSelect is performed, a broadcast filter will be applied for the State...
11:03...Query, matching up that Cognos State field with the map service State field.
11:10Let's add one more for the Policy Class Query.
11:13And this is what we will actually update the pie chart on the map.
11:17The previous filter will apply to the column chart.
11:21And again, we're just matching up our fields and saving and exit.
11:30So let's take a look at this report one last time.
11:42So here we have our states again.
11:44But you will notice that since we've added our Cognos layer we have access to a...
11:49...larger collection of tools.
11:52And these tools will help us select, in this case, states on the map.
11:56And then, because we have those broadcast actions and filter set...
11:59...it will update the rest of the report items with that specific information.
12:04So if I just select some states here on the western portion of the US as those states...
12:09...are selected; notice how the column and pie chart both update with information.
