Esri MapStudio lets you create a demographic overlay on the map. Demographic data comes from Esri's Business Analyst Online to deliver extensive demographic, consumer spending, and business data. The demographic overlap updates as you zoom in on the map to reflect geography levels, such as state, county, city, and ZIP codes. In this demonstration, you will learn how to create a demographic overlay to the map.

Esri MapStudio lets you search for places, addresses, business names, or business categories to add to your map. Results can be saved to a layer to let you export or retain this information with your map. In this demonstration, you will learn how to perform each of these searches.

In this video, Lindsay Thomas demonstrates the Districting Template for ArcGIS 10. The Districting Template is an ArcMap editing map and configuration of the Districting for ArcGIS 10 Add-In that helps you create precincts, wards, or other election geography from Census Blocks, Block Groups, and Tracts.  The editing map is specifically designed to streamline the creation or management of precinct data and maps.

This demonstration shows how the applet downloads ArcGIS Online Map Cache tiles for use in ArcPad offline in case you don’t have any network connectivity wherever you are in the world. Please note that this video has no sound.

In this video, ArcGIS Server Product Manager Ismael Chivite describes how to serve your maps in a way that your users can select and download map data for their own use. You can do this by using one of the sample data extraction models provided with ArcGIS Server 10. These models are written in Python, so you can customize them or use as-is. Ismael demonstrates how to create both a map service for the layers of your map, and a geoprocessing service which provides the select, extract, and download operations. If you add in the optional Data Interoperability Extension, you can provide your users over 100 different GIS and spatial data formats to choose from.

In ArcPad Studio, users can set the layer icon for an AXF layer. It is an easy way to make the default UI of ArcPad clearer and meaningful for field users. The layer icon will automatically appear in the UI wherever the data is listed (e.g., Add layer dialog box, Table of Contents). Users can find all kinds of icons on the Internet or create their own. Sample icons are also included in ArcPad samples folder. This video shows users how to set the layer icons for AXF layers in four steps. 1. Open an AXF file in ArcPad Studio; 2. Right-click on an AXF layer and choose "Set Layer Icon..."; 3. Navigate to the sample icons folder: C:\Program Files\ArcPad 8.0 \Samples\Layer Icons; 4. Select the icon file, and click OK to close the dialog box. Done!

This video shows how to make and share a map using ArcGIS Online.  A cached map service is added as the basemap, weather and wind services are added, and the map is saved to the My Content area.  The map is shared by making it available to a group, and a member is invited to join the group so they have access to the published map.  This type of map, which combines map services from different sources into a single map is called a mashup.  Note: video does not have sound.

Electric and Gas utility networks are consistently affected by outside, uncontrollable, sources such as weather. Determining where on your network the most likely point of failure during a storm event is crucial for planning post storm damage assessments and knowing who on your network will be impacted. The ArcGIS Desktop application can be used by Planners and Engineers to determine where the greatest risk of network failure could occur during a severe storm event.  

The staff in your utility, including managers and executive directors needs an up-to-the-minute understanding of how your utility systems are performing, where employees are focusing their efforts and how customers are affected. This video shows how Shadow Maps are created in ArcGIS 10. A Shadow Map is a map showing areas of shadow / no shadow on the ground at a certain point in time. When we calculate a shadow map for a number of time steps, and summarize, we get a good indication of the shadow effect on the ground over the course of the chosen time period. Landscape planners might use these maps to decide where to plant certain plant species so they get enough sunlight or where to place park benches so they get enough shade in summer.

This video shows how labeling can be an easy way to add descriptive text to features in our 3D world. In ArcGlobe, we have 2 types of labels: billboarded text and draped text. Billboarded text is very effective in a 3D scene especially when we need our text above floating layers or above 3D objects such as schools or firestations. Draped text is an effective way of adding text to features especially when looking at large areas such as police districts or subway lines.
